Have you noticed the new images at the top of LinkedIn personal profiles? This new feature is a great way to increase your branding and visibility, attract new followers and connections, and showcase who you are.
The big cover graphic (or hero image) is similar to those offered by Facebook and Twitter. It is responsive, which means the cover image expands to cover the top of the page no matter how large the viewer's monitor.
Consider this before creating your profile background:
“How can I use this feature to help people understand what I do?”
What you could include in your background:
Ways to leverage your profile background:
Add value to your customers, and keep them coming back by offering a quote or tip of the week.
Promotion of products and events – because you can change your background as often as you want, it could be used for promotions.
Remember people do business with people they know, like and trust.

To add the background follow these steps:
1. Go to Profile, select Edit
2. Just above your name in the background is the text: Edit background. Click on this
3. Find the file on your computer and upload.
If you wish to design your cover image you'll need to allow for the fact that less of it will be visible above the main bio area and some of the bottom will be cropped off as the size of the viewer's monitor increases.
You will see in the screenshot below that LinkedIn adds random advertisements across the top of the page below the navigation bar, so you'll want to avoid putting anything important in the top section of your design. The size LinkedIn suggests is 1400 x 425 pixels and a maximum file size of 4mb.
